Gate Precast Company is one of the nation’s largest producers of architectural precast concrete and pre-stressed structural systems.  We currently have opening(s) for full-time employment in our Jacksonville, AR engineering department (13 miles north of Little Rock) for the following:

  • Entry-level engineer
  • Moderately experienced engineer (precast or structural)

The successful candidate will aid in the design of architectural and structural precast concrete systems for office buildings, universities, hospitals, stadiums, data centers, parking structures and other commercial and institutional projects.  A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university and EIT licensure (Civil Engineering) is a requirement.

Duties include the ability to:

  • Produce structural design calculations for reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete, and structural steel connections using a variety of tools including RISA-3D, Mathcad, Microsoft Excel, and others.
  • Use of Autodesk Revit to view and manipulate 3D models
  • Interact with engineers, project managers, contractors and plant production personnel to produce accurate design information.

QC Manager duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Daily supervising of 4 QC department employees

  - Lab Tech, Pre-pour/Post-pour Inspectors

• Plan staffing levels. Work with Human Resources staff to recruit, interview, select, hire.

• Provide oversight and direction to the employees in the QC department in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.

• Coach, mentor and develop staff.

• Empower employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback.

• Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department.

• Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with the overall organization's and that emphasizes the identified mission, vision, guiding principles, and values of the organization.

• Review and verify all testing and inspection reports as required by project specifications

• Inspect and test as required, all materials and cast-in items prior to concrete placement

• Create and verify proper mix designs used for each project

• Inspect formwork, and any casting surface for any irregularities and out-of-tolerance conditions

• Generate tension reports and inspect/monitor tensioning operations

• Check cast-in items for proper size and location.

• Perform daily inspections of batching, mixing, placing, curing, and finishing of all appropriate fresh concrete tests.

• Daily inspection of stripping operations, including verification of concrete strength requirements.

• Inspect product following any repairs to ensure the repairs are completed per the approved details and methods.

• Disposition of non-conforming product, including appropriate documentation

• Completion of all project documentation and quality control records

• Final visual marking and/or coding of product to indicate product is approved to load and ship

• Establish and maintain Quality Systems Manual

• Perform routine checks of prestressing beds

• Maintain calibration schedule and records for all equipment used in Quality processes

• Make color and texture samples for project specifications

• Review and file material mill certificates for all materials

We currently have an opening for a full-time experienced Drafter I Detailer in our Oxford, NC Engineering Department (25 miles north of Raleigh-Durham area).

The successful candidate will assist in the development of production shop tickets and detailing and assembly of drawings for architectural precast concrete systems using Revit (BIM).  Additionally they will:

• Produce manufacturing shop drawings, production tickets, hardware drawings
• Work with Senior Drafters to detail drawings and assembly for precast architectural concrete products to ensure product is built to specifications
• Interact with Engineers, Sales, Production and QC to ensure product requirements are met.

Requirements I Skills:

Certificate or High School diploma. A.S. degree and / or coursework is a plus.
Drafting experience and the ability to illustrate and dimension drawings of assemblies as required
Experience using Autodesk products including Autocad and Revit BIM (previous Revit experience is a bonus)
Willingness to learn and adapt to Gate standards as needed
Willingness and ability to work as a team player
Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
Ability to read construction plans, be highly detailed oriented with good written /verbal skills Experience in similar concrete related industry desired.

The successful candidate will assist in the design of structural precast parking garages, development of production shop tickets and detailing drawings for precast concrete systems.

Job functions will include:

  • Coordination with engineers and architects to produce submittal plans for precast parking garages.
  • Producing manufacturing shop drawings, hardware cut sheets, and details.
  • Publishing drawings used for assembly of precast concrete products at the job site.

  • AS degree, certificate or diploma and experience in structural precast.

Gate Precast recently established an engineering department at its architectural precast production facility in Hillsboro, Texas and is in need of an experienced Engineering Manager to continue to build, train, and manage a staff of engineering, drafting, and BIM professionals.  The potential candidate will be a registered Civil/Structural Professional Engineer with a background in the design of Precast/Prestressed Concrete and be a self-starting, proven leader.

Experience and knowledge should include:

  • Conventional reinforced concrete design
  • Post-tensioned and prestressed concrete design
  • Insulated sandwich wall panel design
  • IBC, ASCE, and other building codes
  • PCI and ACI design requirements
  • Seismic, hurricane, and blast force design
  • Stripping and handling, and shipping and erection analysis
  • Design of production and handling equipment

Software – Autodesk Revit, LEAP PRESTO, RISA-3D, LECWALL, Mathcad, and Excel are all used extensively in Gate engineering offices.
