FIU Science Classroom Complex

Miami, FL

Pre-glazed precast wall panel systems, a cost- and time-efficient method of enclosure, were utilized on the new six-story, 136,000-square-foot lab/classroom complex on FIU’s campus. The building features varying precast concrete window openings and curtain wall of impact low emissivity glazing. Prior to delivery to the site, each precast panel was pre-glazed, caulked, and inspected. Each procedure reduced trades which accelerated the overall project schedule and allowed the interior work to begin sooner. An interesting design element on the building was the usage of precast to create sun shading elements on the south elevation. The design flexibility of precast offers multiple shade patterns. The structure is seeking LEED Gold certification. Completion: Feb. 2013

Precast Concrete and
Glass Wall Assembly

Glazing was installed in Gate Precast's factory-controlled environment which contributed to a budget savings and shaved four weeks from the glazing schedule. The precast concrete and glass wall assemblies were delivered to the construction site for installation offering faster dry-in which reduces  potential moisture exposure for all products and lessens the opportunity for mold growth. This integrated precast concrete wall system also eliminates the coordination of additional trades on the site.
